Working-time models

  • Detailed information on the subject of part-time work on the website of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (abbreviated to BMAS in German)
    The "Teilzeit- und Befristungsgesetz" ("Act on part-time and temporary employment"), which entered into force on 1 January 2001, creates more flexibility for businesses and gives workers more control over their time.
  • Flexible working hours 
    A set of recommendations on organising socially acceptable, flexible working hours, have been drawn up on the basis of the findings of a research report produced by the Bundesanstalt für Arbeitsschutz und Arbeitsmedizin (Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, abbreviated to BAuA in German).

  • Info portal on organisation of working time, including best practice
    The website of the "Work-Life" expertise centre provides databases on various topics concerned with modern methods of organising working time, e.g. best practice and working-time models. The portal is funded by the European Social Fund and the Bavarian Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs.
  • "Software-gestützte Arbeitszeitgestaltung in der Praxis" ("Software-aided organisation of working time in practice")
    This BAuA brochure contains ideas for practitioners and aims to show how working time can be organised in a way which takes OSH aspects into account.  
  • "Beschäftigungswirksame Arbeitszeitmodelle für ältere Arbeitnehmer"  ("Working-time models with a positive impact on mature workers employment opportunities")
    Going against the trend of replacing mature workers with young ones, the authors of a research report published by BAuA developed various working-time models aimed at extending individuals' working lives and making work "age-friendly". 
  • "Landesinitiative Moderne Arbeitszeiten" ("North Rhine-Westphalian Modern Working Hours Initiative") set up by the Ministerium für Arbeit, Gesundheit und Soziales des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen (North Rhine-Westphalian Ministry of Labour, Health and Social Affairs)
    As well as focusing on "Advice on working time", "Organisation of working time" and "Working time and society", this information service includes surfing tips, upcoming events, recommended reading and an e-mail newsletter.
  • "Flexible Arbeitszeiten im Handwerk" ("Flexible working hours in the construction trades") - A project by the Landes-Gewerbeförderungsstelle des nordrhein-westfälischen Handwerks e.V. (business development agency), funded by the European Union and the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia

  • Ergonomic design of shift schedules -  A platform-independent computer program for the design and evaluation of shift schedules 
  • Internet survey on the impacts of flexible working hours
    The Occupational and Organisational Psychology Section of Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg is conducting a project on the topic of flexible working hours on behalf of BAuA.
